About INSEE

The idea of establishing the International Society of Extension Education was first mooted by Dr. R.R. Sinha the then Professor of Extension Education, College of Agriculture, Nagpur in the year 1983. Since then he was trying to establish the same in India. In the year 1984, he had been to England and discussed the Idea with Dr. Rollings of the New Castle University and it was appreciated by him. Then in the USA he had been to Extension Department, Arbana Champaign University wherein the Idea was also welcomed by those people. During the International Seminar organized by Indian Society of Extension Education, New Delhi in December, 1992 to know the opinion of the fellow members of the discipline. The idea was also very well received by the delegates of seminar from and across the country and abroad. The issue was further discussed in the National Seminar organized at College of Agriculture, Nagpur under the joint auspices of Maharashtra Society of Extension Education and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola.

However, the first meeting to mobilize the efforts in the right perspective was organized at MANAGE, Hyderabad on 24th February, 1993 under the Chairmanship of Dr. R. Dwarakinath, the former Vice Chancellor of UAS Bangalore and Ex-FAO scientist. The others who attended the meeting were Dr. Perumal, Dr. Amar Singh, Dr. S.L.Ghoshal, Dr. H.N. Byra Reddy, Dr.R.R. Sinha, Dr. Yella Reddy, Dr.V. R. Kubde, Dr. Surdarshan Reddy and Dr.Janannath Raju. The Ad-voc body of INSEE was formed with Dr. R. Dwarakinath as the President, Dr.R.R. Sinha as the Secretary and Treasurer and Dr.H.N.Byra Reddy as Vice President. The other nominated members were Dr. C. Prasad, Dr. Amar Singh, Dr. Perumal ,Dr. D. K. Sharma , Dr. K. M. Jairamaiah , Dr. V. R. Kubde and Dr. Sudarshan Reddy.

The fundamental objective of International Society of Extension Education (INSEE) is to work for the development of the discipline of Extension Education. For this purpose the society will work towards greater sensitization of and collaboration among Extension Scientists, Research Scholars, Policy makers, Extension Administrators, Developmental Agencies and Workers, Farmers, Farm Women, Adults and Youths on the basic issues in world and the opportunities available for promotion of Extension Education through advancement in knowledge and techniques.

The one very important activity of the INSEE shall necessary be to promote Research in Extension Education and Rural Development by Organizing Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Training Programmes and Publishing the Research Journal. The INSEE is to fulfill these objectives first took up drive for enrolling the life Membership of the Society.

The first issue of the International Journal of Extension Education the mouthpiece of INSEE was published on 21st January, 2005 and was released on the occasion of National Seminar at UAS, Bangalore. The second and third issues were published in 2006 and 2007 at Navsari and Dharwad respectively. The fourth issue of the INSEE was released in this first International Seminar organized by the INSEE in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for Goa, Ela, Old Goa, India and Maharashtra Society of Extension Education. In the INSEE Executive body meeting was held at College of Agriculture, Pune on 17th August, 2006 Dr. R. Dwarakinath, expressed his inability to continue as the president of the Society. Dr. A. G Sawant former Vice Chanceller Dr. BSKKV, Dapoli and Ex. Chairman of ASRB, New Delhi was requested to lead the society as a President. Dr. Sawant continued as a president till September 2018 and during his tenure the INSEE developed extreamly well by way of regular conferences and INSEE Journal however at General Body Meeting of INSEE held on 23rd September 2018 at Nepal during it's International Conference expressed desire to relieve him from INSEE Presidentship and after a long debate the GBM accepted his request and unanimously nominated Dr. K. Narayana Gowda, Extension Specialist and former Vice Chancellor U.A.S., Bangalore as new INSEE President. The GBM expressed it's gratitude towards Dr. A. .G. Sawant for leading the INSEE in glorious way and empowered to select his team for his tenure.

Dr. R.R. Sinha initiated an idea to organize the International Seminar in the Executive Meeting on 15th November, 2006 at Nagpur which was further discussed at length at Pune on 1st March, 2007 in the E.C. Meeting. The topic of the Seminar and its themes in detail were suggested by the Secretary General. Dr. V. Veerabhadraiah played a vital role in activating INSEE and served as the first Secretary-General for five years.
